Resilience and Stabilisation Peer Support Volunteer

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week depending on allocated worksop

Location: Across Nottinghamshire (including Beeston, Gedling, Mansfield and Worksop) – will be discussed with postholder depending on their base.

About you:

We’re looking for volunteers for our Resilience and Stabilisation service who can bring warmth, professionalism and a passion for supporting others.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
Strong communication skills, with an awareness of different communication styles and needs.

Effective active listening, demonstrating empathy and understanding.
Confidence working with groups, including individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.

Ability to uphold Nottinghamshire Mind’s core values and contribute to evidence‑based, theoretically informed practice.

Collaborative team player, able to work supportively alongside staff and other volunteers.
Able to maintain clear professional boundaries at all times.

Sound understanding of mental health challenges, common concerns and available support options, including helpful coping strategies.
Flexible and adaptable, able to respond to the needs of the service and the individuals taking part.

Creative problem‑solver, able to help clients explore barriers, identify coping strategies and engage meaningfully in group discussions.

The role:

We are currently seeking volunteers to support our Resilience and Stabilisation (R&S) service.

Our Workshops run Monday to Friday, typically between 10:00am and 12:00pm, and take place across a number of different sites throughout Nottinghamshire with Mansfield and Workshop groups included as well as Broxtowe and Sherwood area.

Having volunteers involved in the facilitation of our Workshops helps us uphold our core values of genuine connection and relentless commitment. Your support enables us to build sincere, compassionate and professional relationships with clients, encouraging them as they explore and improve their mental wellbeing.
By joining our R&S workshop team, you will play a key role in creating a safe, supportive and non‑judgemental environment where clients can grow, develop coping strategies, and take part in meaningful conversations about mental health.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

Support group facilitation on key mental health topics, such as emotion regulation, anxiety, and self‑esteem.
Encourage a collaborative learning environment that promotes self‑awareness, self‑efficacy and personal growth.
Provide compassionate, non‑judgemental support, taking time to understand and validate clients’ experiences, emotions and perspectives to help build their resilience.
Assist Coaches with workshop logistics, including preparing the space, opening and closing sessions, and supporting any health and safety requirements.
Help create a reassuring, inclusive atmosphere where clients feel comfortable sharing their experiences, developing new skills and supporting each other.

Informal discussions for interested volunteers will take place on 15th and 16th April.

This volunteer role requires an Enhanced DBS check and two references.
