Our Story

Approximately 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health issue each year.

Nottinghamshire Mind is here to provide support, information and guidance on mental health.

We believe that everyone has the right to enjoy good mental health and to have access to the best possible care.

A bit about us

At Nottinghamshire Mind we want to reduce the negative stigma around mental health issues. We aim to educate, inform, and build resilience of the local community.

Over many years, we have been providing a supportive and empowering environment, creating a space where people with mental health issues can feel accepted and find ways in which we can help them move forward with their lives.

Our link with National Mind

At Nottinghamshire Mind, we’re proud to be part of something bigger. We’re one of over 100 independent Local Minds across England and Wales, all working alongside National Mind to make sure that nobody faces a mental health problem alone. Being part of this network means we can stay true to our local roots – shaping our services around the needs of people in Nottinghamshire – while also benefiting from the knowledge, experience and support of a national movement.

Our Vision

“That Nottinghamshire is a place where everyone can access the mental health support they need, feeling understood, valued and respected; empowered to live with confidence and hope.

We inspire meaningful, lasting change by working with our communities – building a more sustainable, healthy future for all.”

Our Mission

“To educate, empower and support people across Nottinghamshire to understand themselves, address their difficulties, and live well.

We provide a wide range of accessible, engaging and individually tailored services for people from all walks of life, and at all stages of their journey towards positive mental health. Drawing on our lived experiences, we offer compassion, non-judgmental and creative support, working with our clients as equals and peers, not as patients.

We work in close partnership with other voluntary and statutory sector services, delivering a range of county-wide, clinically-informed services. This includes individual and group programmes, educating people in relation to their mental health challenges and equipping them with the skills and knowledge to achieve positive wellbeing. We provide in-house therapeutic services such as counselling, alongside volunteer-led supported listening. We also offer out-of-hours, drop-in support for people in crisis.

Community-based services remain at the heart of all we do. We work hand in hand with our clients and volunteers to create locality-based activities that reflect their unique circumstances, interests and aspirations. This includes a vast array of peer-support groups giving people the opportunity to try new activities, learn new skills, and talk together.

In the coming years, we will continue to grow and evolve, adapting to our ever-changing landscape and responding to the needs of our communities.”

However, one thing will remain the same:

We are here for you. You are not alone.
