Peak District Challenge

Are you ready to take on the Peak District Challenge 2025?

Join #TeamNottsMind and test your endurance skills in the stunning Peak District National Park by taking on one of five different mountain challenges!

Event organised by Wilderness Development.

19-20 September 2025

About the Challenge

This endurance challenge offers four route options to suit different levels of experience. While a basic level of fitness is needed for all distances, there’s something for most abilities.

The longer routes – the 75km Silver, 100km Gold Ultra, and the 100-mile in 24 hours Ultra – start at 9pm, meaning participants will be walking or running through the night. These are demanding options and should not be entered into without preparation.

Participants can choose to navigate the route themselves. If you take this option, you’ll need some basic navigation skills. You’ll walk or run independently, carrying a GPS tracker (provided as part of your team’s entry), with support available only at checkpoints.

For those without navigation experience, the Event Company (Wilderness Development) offers the option to join a led walking group. These are available on the Copper, Bronze, and the overnight section of the Silver route. The second half of the Silver challenge takes place in daylight and can be completed independently.

What to Expect

The Peak District Challenge is a trail running or trekking challenge that offers five levels of difficulty:

  • 25km (Copper)
  • 50km (Bronze)
  • 75km (Silver)
  • 100km (Gold Ultra)
  • 100miles in 24 hours Ultra

Each distance has a target time to try to beat, from 9 hours to hike 25km, up to 24 hours to run the huge 100mile Ultra Peak District Challenge.

  • The routes all start at Hathersage.
  • Checkpoints are spread out every 10km around the course on average.
  • Qualified safety teams monitor teams’ safety throughout.
  • You are encouraged to enter in a team of 3-5 people.
  • Teams can self-navigate or join a led walking group accompanied by a fully qualified mountain leader.
  • There are no indoor or undercover resting areas during the event, (only at the start and finish), so you need to prepare to be outdoors for the entire event.
