Counselling & Therapy

Counselling and therapy gives you the opportunity to talk about issues affecting your life in a safe and confidential environment. It can help you explore your thoughts and feelings in order to change behaviours and achieve your goals.

If you think that counselling could benefit you, then our counselling team is here to help.

How can Counselling & Therapy help?

Counselling & Therapy services could support you with facing difficulties such as:

  • Depression, anxiety, stress
  • Unprecedented life events, such as bereavement, loss of relationship or employment
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Upsetting or traumatic experiences, including past trauma and PTSD
  • Difficult emotions such as anger, guilt, sadness, frustration
  • Confidence problems, low self-esteem or self-worth
  • Long-term physical or mental health problems

Some people may think that therapy is an extreme option, and that unless things get really bad you should try to manage on your own. But this isn’t true. It’s ok to ask for support and try therapy at any point in your life, whatever your background.

In fact, getting support from a therapist when you’re not at crisis point can be really helpful – it might feel easier to reflect on what’s going on, and could help you keep things from getting worse.

What happens during counselling?

Counselling helps people with physical, emotional and mental health issues improve their sense of wellbeing, alleviate feelings of distress and resolve crises. Counsellor’s dedicated time is set aside to explore your difficulties, stressful situations, or emotional upset by helping you to see your situation and feelings from a different viewpoint and to facilitate change.

A counsellor will not give you their opinions or advice, prescribe medication or solve your problems. They will support you to find your own solutions – whether that’s by helping you to eliminate or control troubling symptoms and supporting you to better understand yourselves, your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, enact effective changes, develop coping strategies or enhance self-worth, self-esteem, confidence and resilience.

How do we deliver counselling?

We offer one-to-one counselling sessions which are held weekly and last for 50mins.

Appointments are available Monday to Friday, with time slots in the morning, afternoon or evening.

Our counsellors can deliver counselling sessions in a number of different ways:

  • Face-to-face at either our Mansfield or Worksop building
  • By telephone
  • Using a digital video platform such as Teams
The choice of how to access your sessions is up to you, but please be aware that there may sometimes be a longer wait for different delivery methods or locations.  You can select which method you would prefer when you make your referral.
Please note, we are not currently accepting new referrals for our counselling service.
