Peer support listening volunteer

Role Type: Volunteer

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week

Location: Worksop

Number of Roles: 2

About you:

We are looking for 2 volunteers to join our Creative Ceramics sessions based in Worksop on the Welbeck estate. We run two sessions every Thursday at 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm and require a volunteer for each session.

The ideal volunteer should possess excellent listening and communication skills and be reliable, dependable, and flexible. You will act with tact and diplomacy to prevent any individual’s agenda or needs from dominating the group. Additionally, you should be able to listen to others in a non-judgmental way without feeling the need to ‘fix’ them.

Volunteers should also be:

Able to put others at ease and encourage their involvement.

Open-minded and capable of seeing things from other perspectives.

Willing to share their own knowledge and experiences to help others.

Able to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.

Committed to understanding the needs of people living with mental health issues, their carers, friends, and loved ones.

Aware of the importance of boundaries and confidentiality.

We provide induction, support, and training for the role. This is an opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience, foster personal growth and development, and be part of a team while learning more about the voluntary sector.

The role:

The Peer Support Volunteers in our Creative Ceramics workshop help create a supportive community environment where people can engage in everyday conversations while participating in creative therapy by working and kneading clay. We are looking for a volunteer to support and encourage positive communication among participants, fostering stronger connections.

Volunteers are encouraged to direct individuals to appropriate services if they require personal support.

The volunteer will support participants during the clay workshop and be an attentive listener and provide support when required.

This is based at Welbeck estate in Worksop.
